DAY 10
In 2018, Apple Michigan Avenue in Chicago won an Award of Merit from the International Association of Lighting Designers. Lighting design was critically important for the flagship store, which is enclosed by glass on all four sides. Architects Foster + Partners used a physically-based rendering engine and HDR monitors to simulate how daylight would mix with interior artificial light.
Just like your iPhone uses True Tone and Night Shift technology to automatically adjust the display’s color temperature, the light fixtures at Apple Michigan Avenue dim in the evening and transition to a warmer hue as the sun sets.
Hamilton Wood Type is a living museum and print shop in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. The museum keeps the art of letterpress printing alive with interactive workshops and digital fonts inspired by wood type.
Josh documents notable and vanishing architecture and design in Michigan and across the entire Midwestern US.
Working under a pseudonym, jonrev captures a bygone era of American culture and retail design through seldom-seen perspectives.
Mitchell created Every Lot MKE, an experimental art project that surfaces Google Street View imagery from a random ZIP Code in Milwaukee every day. The results are often fascinating and unexpected.
